Here's How Much Money You Need to Live Comfortably in Philly

Too bad it's nowhere near the city's average income

If you follow the 50-30-20 budgeting rule to the T, listen closely: You need to earn just under $60,000 a year to live comfortably in Philadelphia.

That's according to a new analysis by Go Banking Rate, which found that you need to make exactly $59,384 to be able to live in Philadelphia. That's based on the budgeting rule that you spend 50 percent of your income on necessities, 30 percent for discretionary spending, and 20 percent for savings.

About $60,000 doesn't sound too terrible when you compare Philly to other cities like San Francisco, where you need to make $119,570 to live comfortably.

But when you take into account that the typical Philadelphia household earns an income of $37,460, then the $60,000 salary sounds a little less reasonable, doesn't it?
