Philly Rent: What $900 Rents You Right Now

From a Powelton Village apartment to a whole house in Grays Ferry

Welcome back to Curbed Comparisons, a dive into the options available for a certain price point in various neighborhoods. Is one person's loft another person's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $900/month.

Powelton Village (1 bed, 1 bath) — This colorful ground-floor, one-bedroom unit is just minutes from Penn and Drexel. It has old-world charm like a wrought-iron fence outside and wide pine floors within. But the kitchen and bath are a bit more newly updated than that. Small dogs and their humans will like the one-block walk to Drexel Park. Laundry in the building. Starts renting in September.

Grays Ferry (2 beds, 1 bath)—Next to D. Finnegan Playground and just blocks from Stinger Park and the Grays Ferry Shopping Center, this two-story corner house offers some new updates and a decent amount of space for $900. Pets considered.

Lower Moyamensing (1 bed, 1 bath)—Sports fans or art types may like this recently spruced up one-bedroom on South Broad Street. The big windows in the open living and kitchen area might make a good perch to stay home and watch the Mummers strut their way up to City Hall on New Year's Day. There's also central air. Parking may be a battle, but it's close to the Broad Street Line.

Kensington (2 bed, 1 bath)—This apartment features new updates all around, lots of windows, and nice subway and hexagon tiling in the bathroom and kitchen. It's a change from the older, warehouse-type properties that Kensington's known for. There's also in-unit laundry and it's close to the Market-Frankford Line.

Fairmount (1 bed, 1 bath)—Clearly, this apartment has been updated for functionality. But for flash, it’s just one block from the North Star Bar, three blocks from the Schuylkill River, and walkable to the Art Museum area and Whole Foods.
