SEPTA strike day four: How Philly and workers have been affected

How have you been affected by the strike so far?

Welcome to Friday Open Thread, wherein we'll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, etc. This week, we want to know how the ongoing SEPTA strike has affected you so far.

On Tuesday at midnight, 4,700 SEPTA employees went on strike after their union failed to come to a labor agreement with the public transportation service. Some of the main reasons for the strike include pensions and health care—their current monthly payments of $64 would increase to $164, reports 6ABC.

Local subways, trolleys, and buses have been shut down since Tuesday, causing an increase of both bikes and cars on the road. School attendance was down 5 percent on day 2 of the strike, the District reported. And it’s looking like the strike will continue through Election Day.

So for today’s Friday Open Thread, we want to know: Whether you are a SEPTA worker or a commuter or a student, how has the strike affected you so far?

Maybe your commute time doubled. Or maybe you actually rode a bike in Philly for the first time. Either way, good or bad, tell us how your week went in the comments below. And TGIF.
